Animal Attacks

Nearly every state has a statutory remedy available to individuals injured or killed due to animal attacks. For example, in Illinois, if a dog or other animal, without provocation, attacks, attempts to attack or injures someone who is peaceably conducting himself or herself in a place where he or she may lawfully be, the owner of the animal is liable. On the other hand, in Indiana, only postal employees are protected by statute. However, other methods of recovery, based on negligence may also be available. Although animal attacks typically involve a man's best friend, compensation is also attainable relative to attacks or occurrences involving other animals, such as horses and livestock.
